Action

Action means turning ideas into tangible support — for a school in Kenya and for families in my own community.

Turkana, Kenya Education & Supply Project

Organizer2025–Present

In 2025, I traveled to Turkana, Kenya, for about two weeks. I visited a school that held classes under a tree and saw how limited its educational resources were.

Using JoyLand funds, I purchased shoes, jump ropes, blackboards, school supplies, and six smartphones for the school.

After returning home, I organized a community donation drive. I created advertisements, went door to door asking for unused supplies, and coordinated support from more than 20 community members. Together we prepared about 19 boxes of notebooks, pens, coloring materials, and other learning materials.

JoyLand also partnered with the Books for International Goodwill Foundation, which collected and shipped more than 25,000 books.

New Americans Blessing Box Food Pantry

Youth LeaderTwo years

For two years, I volunteered every Sunday at the New Americans Blessing Box Food Pantry, a choice-based pantry where families select their own groceries. I was the only youth leader recognized by the pantry's founder.

I organized Chinese American youth and other local students as volunteers, assigned volunteer roles, and helped coordinate operations. Each week, the pantry served more than 100 families, and I also helped organize Thanksgiving events that served more than 500 families.
